GW Recycling Truck Design Contest

Contest open to all students, staff, faculty, and alumni!

We invite you to design an image for GW's new recycling truck that demonstrates GW's ongoing commitment to recycling.


Contest Rules

Design Elements and Criteria

The design must convey the message that GW recycles.

Use of text is permitted but not required provided that the design elements clearly express the message.

Submission of Design

  • Designs must be submitted using design software such as Illustrator, Corel Draw, Photo Shop, InDesign, or Publisher. Do NOT create your design in an office document format such as Microsoft Word, NotePad, Excel or Paint Shop. 
  • Photographs or imported graphics must be at least 100dpi at final output size.
  • Digital images should be saved at full, ½, or ¼ scale size.  For example, a 10' X 20' design should be designed at 5' X 10' or 2.5' X 5'
  • Please note that the design needs to account for two different sides of the truck.  Designs may fill the entire space allotted below.  The dimensions for the flat area on the truck sides are: top - 95", bottom - 117", front side - 44", and back side - 47".



Number of Entries

An individual may submit only one entry to the contest.

Group Entries

Student organizations may submit only one entry from the organization. One person must be identified as the contact person for the organization and the entry must include a complete listing of the participants within the organization who helped with the entry. A student organization may include its logo or name within the design.

Photographer/Copyright

Entries must be submitted by the owner. Do not submit an entry on behalf of someone else. You must be the sole owner of the design and any images submitted. Your submission of your entry is your guarantee that you are the owner.

Design Restrictions

Designs must be appropriate for public use. Obscene, provocative or otherwise questionable content will not be considered.  

Return of Designs

Designs, regardless of the medium, will not be returned. Please do not send your only copy of the design.

Ownership/Use Rights

By entering the contest, entrants agree to have their submissions displayed.  Entries will be credited to the entrant named in the entry form. Entries (including non-winning entries) may be selected for display. In the event that ownership of any submission is contested in any manner, the University retains the sole discretion to disqualify that entry and discontinue use of it. 

The University reserves the right to make minor modifications to designs in order to comply with the policies of the George Washington University or to accommodate production and installation requirements.

The University will own all rights, title and interest in any and all designs submitted by entrants, including the winning design. 

How to Enter

All entries must be accompanied by a completed Contest Entry Form. 

Designs must be submitted on a compact disc and hand-delivered or mailed to the following address:

All entries must be received by 5pm on Wednesday October 15, 2008.

Judging

Entries will be judged on the basis of creativity, design quality, and effectiveness in conveying the contest theme. A University panel will judge the entries and all contest decisions are final. Entries that fail to comply with the Official Contest Rules will be disqualified.  

The chosen design will be announced in November 2008.
