Recyclemania
RecycleMania is a friendly competition among colleges and universities in the United States that provides participating schools with a fun, proactive opportunity to increase awareness about waste prevention and recycling on their campuses. Over a 10-week period, schools compete in different contests to see which institution can collect the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables, the least amount of trash per capita, or have the highest recycling rate. Participating schools are required to report measurements on a weekly basis throughout the competition. Winners in each category will receive trophies and awards, which of course are made of recycled materials!
The goal of RecycleMania is to increase student awareness of campus recycling and reduce waste generated on campus by reducing, reusing and recycling.
It’s easy! Get in the habit of putting recyclable paper, bottles and cans in the appropriately marked bins in your residence halls, classrooms and office spaces. All of the materials placed in the marked bins are sorted and counted at an off-site location.
Paper, Boxboard, Catalogs, Books, Junk Mail, Magazines, Newspaper, Office paper, Phone books, Aluminum and Steel Cans, Glass, Cardboard, and #1-#7 plastic containers.
