Laundry Services

In all University residence halls, except 1959 E Street, The Dakota and Townhouse Row, Laundry Facilities are in common areas on each floor or in one central location in the building, usually on the first floor or the basement levels. All operating directions are posted on bulletin boards in the laundry rooms. You can use your GWorld card to pay to use laundry machines. Laundry Equipment is maintained and serviced by third-party companies and residents should call them directly to report operating problems as follows:

1959 E Street, The Dakota, Townhouse Row

Washer Dryer units provided within these buildings are maintained by Facilities Management. Submit an online FIXit request to report operating problems.  In the event that a unit has a critical problem, such as a leak, call the RPM Call Center at (202) 994-0381.  Please note: Townhouse Row washers are high-efficiency, and require use of less detergent than normal washers.

2109 F Street

Washer and dryer units are maintained by Coinmach.  For any operating problems for these units, residents should contact Coinmach directly at 1-800-229-7837.

All Other Residence Halls

Washer and dryer units are maintained by Caldwell and Gregory. In 2004 GW partnered with Caldwell and Gregory to undertake measures to conserve energy and water in the residence halls with an initiative by investing in Maytag Energy Star-rated front load washers that save up to 18 gallons of water per cycle over the old top load washers. It is estimated that GW is now saving approximately 4.6 million gallons of water annually. These machines extract much more water than typical top load washers, meaning that clothes will dry in a shorter period of time, saving gas (if applicable) and electricity.

The Maytag Energy Star-rated front load washers use 35% less detergent with the recommendation to use HE (high efficient) types of detergent, which all the major detergent brands offer. Students are encouraged to use HE detergents.

Residents should report any operating problems by contacting Caldwell and Gregory at 1-800-927-9274.

WARNING:

  • Do not dye clothing, or place flammable materials or clothing soaked/soiled with flammable liquids in the washers or dryers.

Tips on Use:

  • As a general rule of thumb, the units operate best when not overloaded, and when the clothing loosely fills the unit, and is not packed in.
  • Be sure to clean out the lint trap after each dryer use, and be sure to check before loading your clothes to ensure that the lint trap is clear. This will keep air flow open and allow optimal dryer operation.
