Returning Student Assignment Process

iHousing is back!

Spring 2009 marks the beginning of another exciting year of iHousing.  The process has made students’ housing assignments easier, more flexible, and more individualized. Only current students in good financial standing my apply through iHousing. All other students must contact GW Housing Programs separately for information on how to request housing for the upcoming academic year.

GW classifies students by the number of years in on-campus residence for housing assignment purposes: second-, third-, or fourth-year. All second-year students are required to reside in on-campus housing in compliance with DC zoning restrictions. Therefore, students who do not participate in iHousing will be administratively assigned to campus housing. Exemptions are rarely granted; however, students can request an exemption under specific conditions outlined on our web site.

For added peace of mind, rising third- and fourth-year students now have the ability after being assigned housing to cancel their request and only be assessed a cancellation penalty (some exclusions apply).

The Focus on Fall Abroad Community (FOFAC) comprises students who study abroad during the fall semester and return to campus during the spring semester of the same academic year to live with other study abroad participants. Benefits include housing in either New Hall or City Hall, priority course registration, and reduced tuition on GW-managed study abroad programs.  For questions about the FOFAC, please call the Office for Study Abroad at 202-994-1649 or visit http://www.studyabroad.gwu.edu/FocusOnFall .

Application Periods:

• Focus on Fall Abroad Community and One Semester applicants should complete the application electronically from February 9-13, 2009
• Rising second-year students should complete the application electronically from February 23–27, 2009.
• Rising third- and fourth-year students should complete the application electronically from March 2–6, 2009.

All students will be notified by e-mail and on the GW Housing Programs Student Web Portal on March 31st of their housing assignment.

Other Important Dates:

• March 31, 2009-- Students will be able to sign up for the Non-Guaranteed Waitlist
• March 31, 2009--Room Swap process will be available to all students wishing to swap room assignments with other students assigned to campus housing for  2009- 2010 academic year.

*Residents of HOVA, Greek Townhouses, and Scholars' Village Townhouses are excluded from the Room Swap Request Process due to the unique nature of these housing options.*

• April 3, 2009 - Cancellation deadline with no fee for third and fourth year students
• April 3, 2009 – Non-Guaranteed Waitlist Information Available
• May 1, 2009 – Cancellation deadline with fee for third and fourth year students
