Safety Tips

Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management (OPSEM)

Seven Key Safety Tips for the GW Community

  1. Check the Campus Advisories Web page http://campusadvisories.gwu.edu often.
  2. OPSEM is responsible for updating the University’s status online. This Web page is the principal method the University leadership uses to communicate with the greater GW community.
  3. Call the GW Information Line at 4-5050 (on campus) or 202-994-5050 (off campus). The GW Information Line provides a summary of updates made to the Campus Advisories Web page as well as the University’s status.
  4. It is important that you know how to shelter-in-place in case of an incident. Visit the GW Campus Advisories Web page to learn how.
  5. You should always have two planned evacuation routes out of any building you in which you reside or visit. These routes should not involve using the elevator.
  6. You should carry your GWorld card with you at all times.
  7. Register with Alert DC on the GW Campus Advisories Web page to receive emergency text notifications via email, cell phone and other mobile devices.
  8. Program an emergency contact phone number into your cell phone under I.C.E. (In Case of an Emergency).
