COVID-19: May 1 2020: Packing Project Tentative Timeline

Friday, May 1, 2020

Dear GW Residential Students:

First, thank you to those who have already filled out the pre-packing survey that we distributed earlier this week. If you have not already filled yours out, we urge you to do so as soon as possible. The information that you provide in the survey helps us provide you with better service. If you did not receive the survey, please check your spam account so that you can respond.  We will continue to gather surveys through the weekend.

If you filled out the survey and indicated that you do not have any items remaining in your room to be packed, you can disregard the rest of this message.

For those of you who are still in need of assistance packing up your belongings, we know that you are eager to learn more about the timing and what to expect.

As of May 1, this is the current timeline for the remaining buildings:

Week of May 4 Start: Potomac, Mitchell, Dakota, 2109 F Street and Fulbright.

Week of May 11 Start: Madison, Lafayette, Amsterdam and Mount Vernon Campus (Cole, Clark, Hensley, Somers, West).

On May 15, we will provide an estimated timeline for the following remaining buildings based on the progress of the above buildings during the next two weeks.

The order of the buildings will be: Shenkman, Strong, JBKO, Small Townhouses, Greek Row, Aston and JJ.

All remaining buildings should be packed by early June, barring any unforeseen circumstances. Please understand that we may have to make adjustments at any time based on information received as our nation responds to COVID-19.

As we get closer to your building, you will receive at least two more emails regarding the packing process. First, about 2 days in advance of your building’s exact start date, you will receive detailed instructions from GW. Following the GW instructions, you will receive a second email from the moving company who will be working with you. That email will include your estimated pack day and a time window for your video chat with the company so that you can identify your belongings.

We realize that, for some, packing will happen during finals. We have notified the moving companies and they, too, remember finals being a very stressful time. If your pack date and time window is scheduled during a final, please reach out to the company right away so they can switch your time window. During the actual packing process, please know that the packers may be moving ahead of or slightly behind schedule, and they may call outside of the estimated time window.

We know there has been a lot of campus chatter about this packing process. Please know that we have continually listened to the feedback from residents in prior buildings and we have made adjustments to improve the experience, including providing options to ship some of your items right away or picking all of your items up early from the storage facility. If you are interested in learning more before you receive your detailed instructions, please check out the FAQ section of our website. If you have a question that the FAQs do not address, please email us at [email protected] so that we can be of assistance.

Again, thank you for your patience and understanding through this process. We are doing our best to keep you, your family and our community safe as we all work together to keep each other healthy. We hope to see you on campus again soon -- when it is safe.

Best,
Seth Weinshel and Stewart Robinette
