We are actively preparing for thousands of students to arrive in August for the upcoming fall 2021 semester.
In May, second- third- and fourth-year students received their 2021-2022 academic year room assignment. In June, first-year students and transfer students received their room assignments. Since mid-June all students with an assigned room for the fall have been allowed to self-sign-up and schedule their fall move-in date.  If you are a GW student with an assigned fall room assignment and you have yet to schedule your move-in date, please do so by August 6. Look in your inbox for the How to Schedule Your Move-In Day and the Move-in Preview sent to your GW email.
Fall 2021 Residence Hall Move-in Dates:
  • Aug. 16 - 19: All Third- and fourth-year students, and first- or second-year students currently living outside of the United States, unless otherwise designated to accomodate a special program.
  • Aug. 20 - 22: First-year students
  • Aug. 22 - 24: Second-year students
  • Aug. 27 - 29: Third and fourth-year students
On These Days, Move-in Will Occur in 4-hour Time Blocks:
  • August 16 - 24: 8 am, noon, and 4 pm
  • August 27: noon
  • August 28 and 29: 9:30 am or 1:30 pm
Additional Info About the Move-in Timeframe:
  • In order to reduce the volume of people moving in and out of the building, the number of friends and/or family members allowed to help you move is limited to up to three guests per student moving in.
  • Changing Your Reservation: The move-in reservation system is self-service. If you need to change your selected date and time, you may change it anytime between now and Friday, Aug 6 when we close reservations to prepare for your arrival.
  • As we plan for the daily scheduled arrivals, we are not able to accommodate walk-ups or requests to move-into your room outside of the established dates and times indicated.
  • This is just a preview of move-in. We want to make sure that you are well prepared. About one to two weeks before your arrival, we will send you more detailed information about your move-in day, including information about the check-in process, parking and more!

Pre-Arrival Checklist:

Upload your COVID-19 vaccination documentation by the Aug. 1 deadline

Vaccine documentation instructions, important dates and FAQs about the vaccination process can be found here.  Please be patient as each submission is manually reviewed and verified by a medical professional.

If you are a student who will be traveling to campus from outside of the United States, please see these instructions. **Note: we know many countries do not have the vaccine available. These instructions will help you comply with our vaccination requirements.

Note: Students who have their vaccination card on file will not be required to quarantine upon arrival. Students who are not vaccinated will need to quarantine upon arrival.

If you are not in compliance when you arrive on campus you will not be allowed to move-into your residence hall room. Your GWorld card will not be activated until your documentation has been approved.

A few more things to do to prepare for your arrival:

  1. Locate Your GWorld Card: Take a moment now and look for your GWorld Card. You won’t be able to enter your residence hall or your room without your GWorld and it will take time to replace. If you lost your GWorld card, please contact the GWorld office directly at [email protected]
  2. Download the GW Mobile App: GW Mobile provides instant access to information on key university resources from a web-enabled mobile device. The Fall Move-in module will be available the first week of August. Visit https://it.gwu.edu/gw-mobile to download the GW Mobile App.
  3. Explore the Technology Guide: This guide outlines a few things you may want to check on before your arrival to help you connect your devices when you get to campus to secure your devices. You can also chat with the IT team at go.gwu.edu/Martha. So that you don’t lose the instructions ahead of time, on the day that you arrive you will receive a welcome home email that will also include the info on how to connect all of your devices.
  4. Book Accommodations Early for Your Guests: Family members and/or friends who help you move-in are unable to stay overnight with you in your residence hall room. GW has negotiated hotel lodging discounts offering reduced pricing at specific properties that are convenient to the GW Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses.

Quarantine and Testing Requirements

Specifical information about quarantine and testing requirements upon arrival for the fall can be found below under COVID-19 Protocol

All GW community members who are fully vaccinated will be required to participate in monthly surveillance testing through the GW COVID testing center. Residential students should schedule their first COVID-19 test for the day they arrive or the next business day if they move-in after hours when the testing center is closed. Students will recieve an email on how to schedule your covid test closer to your arrival date.  See PDF Instructions.

GW Students with an assigned room for fall 2021 can visit the Campus Living E-Services Reservation Portal to view your housing assignment and schedule or adjust your move-in date and time. Please note: The portal is only accessible to GW students using your designated GWID.
