One can typically find East Commons residents hanging out in Potomac Square studying, spending time with friends, or buying food from the Potomac Square food trucks! East commons living also offers spectacular views from our rooftop lounges located in two of our six residence halls! Conveniently located near the Elliot School of International Affairs many of our International Affairs majors call East Commons home. Although East Commons houses the highest percentage of first-year students on the Foggy Bottom Campus, East Commons is home to both upperclass and first-year students.

One can commonly find North Village residents hanging out in Kogan Plaza which offers shaded study pavilions and many great places to just relax or spend time with friends or throwing a frisbee in University Yard. North Village also is home to many of our most popular restaurants on campus. On the academic side of things, North Village residents are closest to the Gelman Library and the School of Media and Public Affairs! Located on the Foggy Bottom Campus both upperclass and first-year students live in North Village.

One can often find South Square residents catching some fresh air in Anniversary Park or hanging out in their full amenity residence halls. South Square is an upperclass and first-year neighborhood on the Foggy Bottom Campus. South Square residents are conveniently located near the GW School of Business. Students can also catch some great views from the 10th floor of Shenkman Hall or travel one block to visit the Gelman Library.

One can regularly find West Way residents attending one of our NCAA Division I athletic events or hitting the gyms themselves. West Way is closely located to the GW Smith Center, and the Lerner Health and Wellness Recreation Center. Academically, West Way is right around the corner from the GW Science and Engineering Hall and the School of Medicine. West Way is home to both upperclass and first-year students and is located on our Foggy Bottom Campus.

One can find residents on The Vern spending time outside enjoying beautiful green spaces that make up the neighborhood such as "The Quad." When studying, students on The Vern have access to the Eckles Memorial Library. To destress, many Vernies will watch soccer or softball games, as our NCAA Division I teams have their home fields right outside the residence halls. The Vern is primarily a first-year-only residential neighborhood located on the Mount Vernon Campus.

"My favorite part of being a CEA is being able to decorate the residence hall lobbies! My hope is that students feel like they are coming into a place where they feel at home and it makes me happy to hear them get excited when they see the decorations. This allows me to stay connected and engaged with my fellow peers. As a college student, life can get stressful but I am glad to be a part of a team that is making a positive impact on the GW community."

Who are Community Engagement Assistants/Advisors?

Community Engagement Assistants/Advisors are undergraduate students hired by Campus Living & Residential Education. They work across the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses to establish a presence in residence halls, answer questions, connect students to neighborhood resources, and plan and promote events in the residence halls and across campus.

Where can I find a Community Engagement Assistant/Advisor?

Community Engagement Assistants/Advisors hold office hours in the residence halls they work in. If you are uncertain about when their office hours are, please contact your Community Coordinator.

What do I do if I need maintenance or repair work done? Is there a phone number for emergencies?

For any non-emergency maintenance or repair work, you can submit a FixIt.

If it is an emergency you can call the 24/7 emergency facilities line at 202-994-6706 option 2.

Where is Lost and Found?

There is a lost found located on each residential campus.

Foggy Bottom Campus: Support Building (2025 F Street NW, Suite 101) - 9:00am-9:00pm
Mount Vernon Campus: Webb Building (2100 Foxhall Rd NW Washington, DC 20007) - 9:00am-6:00pm

I cannot find my GWorld card. What should I do?

If you think your Gworld card is lost you should log in to your online card account to place a hold on your account.

Contact the GW Police Department and the Gworld office to see if your card was turned in.

To retrieve a replacement card visit the Gworld office (located in the University Student Center) where you can purchase a replacement Gworld card.

Can I report an incident to a Community Engagement Assistant/Advisor?

Yes, you can report an incident to a Community Engagement Assistant/Advisor.

The CEA/d will connect you to appropriate resources depending on this incident - such as the Community Coordinator of your residence hall, the Administrator on Call of your neighborhood, the FixIt online system, or the emergency facilities line.

Can a Community Engagement Assistant/Advisor help me get in contact with professional staff after hours?

Yes, the Community Engagement Assistants/Advisors can help connect you to the Community Coordinator of your residence hall or to an Administrator on Call after hours and over the weekends.

If you have a question or concern that does not require immediate support, the Community Engagement Assistant /Advisor may provide you with the contact information for your Community Coordinator, who will respond to you during the next business day.

Each residential neighborhood has a team of staff who serve on-call for that community. Students receive their neighborhood’s on-call number through email communication and building meetings, and it is prominently displayed on the digital display in the lobby of the residence halls on campus.

The battery to my door is dead. What should I do?

CLRE staff do not replace tap reader batteries, so if your tap reader is not functional, please visit your campus's key depot to pick up a physical key and submit a Fix-it request.

I am locked out of my room. What should I do?

If you are locked out of your room, please visit your campus's key depot to pick up a physical key. If the key depot is closed or you are not able to reach someone, please contact the Administrator on Call.

I am having food delivered via DoorDash, Grubhub, Uber Eats, etc. Can front desk security accept the delivery for me?

Front desk security personnel are not able to accept food or other items from delivery drivers on behalf of residents. If you order food or other items to be delivered, please include your phone number that the delivery driver can use to call or text you once they have arrived on campus. You should also make a note when placing the order that delivery drivers should wait outside of the building with your order. They should not enter the residence halls and leave food or other items in the lobby of the building.

I am having a non-GW/non-residential student guest visit me. Do I need to sign them in with front desk security?

Guests do need to sign in with front desk security personnel. Please remember that all guests must be escorted by their host at all times, and the host is responsible for their behavior while on campus and inside the residence hall.
