RESIDENT ADVISORS
CLRE invites you to apply to be a Resident Advisor! Resident Advisors (RAs) are the everyday superheroes of George Washington University’s first- and second-year residential communities.
Resident Advisor Model
The George Washington University (GW) Resident Advisor (RA) program in the Division for Student Affairs (DSA) offers a premier student leadership experience for undergraduate students seeking to make a positive impact on their fellow students’ experiences in the residence halls. RAs are members of the Campus Living & Residential Education (CLRE) team and serve an integral role in actualizing the DSA vision of guiding and supporting individuals in becoming their best possible selves. Each RA brings their own experiences, goals, and approaches to the role but share a common desire to make meaningful contributions in the lives and experiences of their residents. The RA role is expected to follow the specific procedures, protocols, and role-based decision-making guidance provided through the RA manual, required training, and supervisory coaching.
The core functions of the RA role can be conceptualized in relation to the connections, support, and empowerment they facilitate among residents. To this end, RAs:
• Build meaningful relationships with residents.
• Facilitate community learning and engagement.
• Hold two in-community shifts per week.
• Respond to low-level incidents and uphold university policies.
• Complete administrative and operational duties.
Compensation for the Position

- The University will provide an on-campus housing assignment at no cost.

COMMUNITY ASSISTANTS (CAs)
CLRE invites you to apply to be a Community Assistant!
Who Are Community Assistants?
Community Assistants (CAs) support the residential experience for upper-class students. Unlike Resident Advisors (RAs) in first- and second-year residence halls, whose work centers heavily on foundational community development, CAs focus on sustaining engagement, supporting independence, and enhancing the overall residential environment for upper-class students.
Serving in a support role alongside a live-in Professional Staff Member, CAs contribute to the day-to-day functioning of the residence halls through intentional presence, programmatic assistance, and building operations. Additional details regarding position expectations will be provided during August training and available in the Community Assistant Manual.
In partnership with a live-in Professional Staff Member, CAs contribute to community development and building operations through the following responsibilities:
- Holding scheduled evening office hours (Sunday–Thursday) in the residence halls to support resident accessibility and engagement
- Conducting regular community and building walkthroughs to maintain visibility, identify building concerns, and support connection.
- Assisting with the planning and execution of upper-class student engagement initiatives aligned with the Campus Living & Residential Education (CLRE) Rev UP@Home Curriculum.
- Supporting building operations by assisting with move-in/move-out processes, health and safety inspections, door decorations, and bulletin boards.
Compensation for the Position:
$18.40 per hour for approximately 10 hours per week
Eligibility
- Be full-time degree-seeking undergraduate student (minimum 12 credits).
- Maintain a 2.5 cumulative and semester GPA.
