Assistant Area Coordinators
The Assistant Area Coordinator (AAC) helps to build community, foster a sense of belonging, and promote health and wellbeing within the residence halls. They will supervise undergraduate student staff, plan community events, and contribute to CLRE projects and focus areas (committees) with other full-time staff and leadership.
Assistant Area Coordinators - Affinities
The Assistant Area Coordinator (AAC) is responsible for the oversight of District House Affinities and serves as a point of contact for residential students and student staff members. The AAC helps to build community, foster a sense of belonging, promote health and well-being, and provide residents with the opportunity to learn.

- Compensation
- $22.00 hourly wage (up to 20 hours per week) paid in accordance with the University’s bi-weekly payroll schedule
- Furnished one-bedroom apartment
- Professional and leadership development opportunities through the Division for Student Affairs and Campus Living & Residential Education which can include, but is not limited to participation in trainings/certifications, participation in focus areas (committees), and leading or co-leading professional development presentations.
- Eligibility
- Must be a full-time degree-seeking graduate student at GW for the duration of Academic Year 26-27.
- Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and make satisfactory progress toward their degree.
- Must remain in good academic standing with their college.
- Must be in good student conduct standing with the university.
- Must be available to move in and begin in the role starting in July 2026 and work through May 2027.
- Must be able to commit up to 20 hours per week in the role.

- Participate in virtual interview panels with members of the CLRE team and campus partners in late April/early May. During the interview process, applicants will be able to virtually view one of our graduate staff apartments on campus.

The position is a 10-month position (starting in July 2026 and ending in May 2027). AACs are selected for a term of employment of one academic year. An AAC may be reappointed from year to year based on their past work performance and qualifications as compared to those of new applicants. AACs are expected to be present for all trainings (summer, winter, and during the academic year), unless approval is granted by their supervisor to be excused.
- How are AACs compensated?
AACs receive an hourly wage of $22.00 per hour paid in accordance with the University’s bi-weekly payroll schedule. AACs also receive a one-bedroom furnished apartment and have the opportunity to participate in a number of leadership and professional development opportunities.
- What do working hours look like for the AAC position?
AACs can expect to work up to 20 hours per week unless otherwise noted in the position descriptions. This position has requirements that take place during business hours in addition to evening and weekend work requirements. During summer training, all-staff presence dates and expectations will be provided.
- Are meals included?
Meal plans will not be provided, but AAC apartments will come equipped with a kitchen.
- Will tuition be covered?
The George Washington University does not provide a tuition benefit for the Assistant Area Coordinator positions.
