Resident Advisors (RAs)

RAs are members of the CLRE team and serve an integral role in actualizing the DSA vision of guiding and supporting individuals in becoming their best possible selves. Each RA brings their own experiences and approaches to the role but share a common desire to make meaningful contributions. The RA role is expected to follow specific procedures, protocols, and role-based decision-making guidance.

RA Responsibilities
  • Build meaningful relationships with residents.
  • Facilitate community learning and engagement.
  • Hold two in-community shifts per week.
  • Respond to low-level incidents and uphold university policies.
  • Complete administrative and operational duties.
RA Compensation
  • Housing:
    • The University will provide an on-campus housing assignment at no cost.
  • Stipend:
    • The RA will receive a $2,520 stipend per academic year, paid in equal bi-weekly installments on GW’s regularly designated pay dates, beginning in August 2026 and ending in May 2027. Stipend is prorated for late hires.
  • Meal Plans:
    • Resident Advisors will receive a Block 175 Meal Plan for the academic year

Note: Total estimated value of compensation package is $22,186.

RA Eligibility
  • Be full-time degree-seeking undergraduate student (minimum 12 credits).
  • Have completed at least two semesters of GW on-campus living.
  • Maintain a 2.5 cumulative and semester GPA.
  • Remain in good disciplinary standing and free from probation-level sanctions.

Community Assistants (CAs)

CAs support the residential experience for upper-class students. CAs focus on sustaining engagement, supporting independence, and enhancing the overall residential environment. CAs contribute through intentional presence, programmatic assistance, and building operations.

CA Responsibilities
  • Holding scheduled evening office hours (Sunday–Thursday) in the residence halls to support resident accessibility and engagement
  • Conducting regular community and building walkthroughs to maintain visibility, identify building concerns, and support connection.
  • Assisting with the planning and execution of upper-class student engagement initiatives aligned with the Campus Living & Residential Education (CLRE) Rev UP@Home Curriculum.
  • Supporting building operations by assisting with move-in/move-out processes, health and safety inspections, door decorations, and bulletin boards.
CA Compensation

$18.40 per hour for approximately 10 hours per week.

CA Eligibility
  • Be full-time degree-seeking undergraduate student (minimum 12 credits).
  • Maintain a 2.5 cumulative and semester GPA.
  • Remain in good disciplinary standing and free from probation-level sanctions.

Applications are available through the Campus Living & Residential Education website during the recruitment period. Candidates will complete an online application and participate in interviews as part of the selection process.

Application Timeline:

  • Application closed on February 28
  • Interviews will take place after Spring Break
  • Offers will be sent in early April

How long are the RA and CA appointments?

RA appointments last for one academic year. Reappointment for future terms depends on performance, conduct standing, and departmental needs.

Are meals included for RAs?

Yes, RAs will receive the Block 175 Meal Plan as part of their compensation.

Are meals included for CAs?

Meal plans are not provided as part of the CA position.

Should I still register for housing next year if I am interested in the RA position?

Yes, all applicants should still register for housing in case they are not offered the RA position. For anyone who is offered an RA position and accepts, CLRE will take them out of their housing assignment so they can be placed in their RA housing assignment.

Where do Community Assistants work?

Community Assistants work across the Foggy Bottom campus and are assigned to upperclass residence halls.

What happens if I do not meet eligibility requirements during employment, after getting hired for an RA/CA position?

Failure to maintain GPA, enrollment, or conduct eligibility may result in probation, administrative leave, or termination from the position.
