Fall Move-In
- Aug. 16 - 19: All Third- and fourth-year students, and first- or second-year students currently living outside of the United States, unless otherwise designated to accomodate a special program.
- Aug. 20 - 22: First-year students
- Aug. 22 - 24: Second-year students
- Aug. 27 - 29: Third and fourth-year students
- August 16 - 24: 8 am, noon, and 4 pm
- August 27: noon
- August 28 and 29: 9:30 am or 1:30 pm
- In order to reduce the volume of people moving in and out of the building, the number of friends and/or family members allowed to help you move is limited to up to three guests per student moving in.
- Changing Your Reservation: The move-in reservation system is self-service. If you need to change your selected date and time, you may change it anytime between now and Friday, Aug 6 when we close reservations to prepare for your arrival.
- As we plan for the daily scheduled arrivals, we are not able to accommodate walk-ups or requests to move-into your room outside of the established dates and times indicated.
- This is just a preview of move-in. We want to make sure that you are well prepared. About one to two weeks before your arrival, we will send you more detailed information about your move-in day, including information about the check-in process, parking and more!

Upload your COVID-19 vaccination documentation by the Aug. 1 deadline
Vaccine documentation instructions, important dates and FAQs about the vaccination process can be found here. Please be patient as each submission is manually reviewed and verified by a medical professional.
If you are a student who will be traveling to campus from outside of the United States, please see these instructions. **Note: we know many countries do not have the vaccine available. These instructions will help you comply with our vaccination requirements.
Note: Students who have their vaccination card on file will not be required to quarantine upon arrival. Students who are not vaccinated will need to quarantine upon arrival.
If you are not in compliance when you arrive on campus you will not be allowed to move-into your residence hall room. Your GWorld card will not be activated until your documentation has been approved.
A few more things to do to prepare for your arrival:
- Locate Your GWorld Card: Take a moment now and look for your GWorld Card. You won’t be able to enter your residence hall or your room without your GWorld and it will take time to replace. If you lost your GWorld card, please contact the GWorld office directly at [email protected].
- Download the GW Mobile App: GW Mobile provides instant access to information on key university resources from a web-enabled mobile device. The Fall Move-in module will be available the first week of August. Visit https://it.gwu.edu/gw-mobile to download the GW Mobile App.
- Explore the Technology Guide: This guide outlines a few things you may want to check on before your arrival to help you connect your devices when you get to campus to secure your devices. You can also chat with the IT team at go.gwu.edu/Martha. So that you don’t lose the instructions ahead of time, on the day that you arrive you will receive a welcome home email that will also include the info on how to connect all of your devices.
- Book Accommodations Early for Your Guests: Family members and/or friends who help you move-in are unable to stay overnight with you in your residence hall room. GW has negotiated hotel lodging discounts offering reduced pricing at specific properties that are convenient to the GW Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses.
Quarantine and Testing Requirements
Specifical information about quarantine and testing requirements upon arrival for the fall can be found below under COVID-19 Protocol
All GW community members who are fully vaccinated will be required to participate in monthly surveillance testing through the GW COVID testing center. Residential students should schedule their first COVID-19 test for the day they arrive or the next business day if they move-in after hours when the testing center is closed. Students will recieve an email on how to schedule your covid test closer to your arrival date. See PDF Instructions.
Campus Living E-Services
Fall 2021
In order to maintain social distancing all students must register for a move in date and a 4-hour time slot to complete their move.
- Each student is allowed only 3 guests to assit with move-in and to enter the building.
- Cloth masks are required to be worn on campus and in all campus buildings by students and guests that are not fully vacinated.
- Please adhere to all signage regarding occupancy, directional traffic in the halls, and distancing.
- We are not able to accommodate walk-ups or requests to move-into your room outside of the established dates and times indicated.
Changing Your Arrival Date & Time
If you need to reserve a new arrival time log into Campus Living E-Services. You will only see the remaining available dates and times between August 16th and August 29th. We will not be able to make any changes to arrival dates and time after Friday, August 6th.
Fall 2021
As you plan ahead for the fall, we encourage you to consider to pack light and have discussions with your roommates about comfort level regarding sharing items that may have typically been shared in the past. We recommend that you consider purchasing common items when you come to campus. Many malls and stand-alone retail outlets are within walking distance or a short Metro ride or drive away. Some nearby stores that students and families can use to shop for room essentials include.

For your safety, there are items that GW prohibits in its residence halls. These items will be confiscated, if found.

We all play a role in assuring the safety of the entire GW community, it will be the personal responsibility of the residents to maintain the hygiene and cleanliness of their space. During the first two weeks of school, Campus Living staff will work with every resident to establish a cleaning routine and schedule that all members will be expected to follow. Students may want to consider purchasing cleaning supplies as they arrive back to campus.

One more thing to add to your packing list -- If you did not already hear, we are going to be phasing out single-use plastics. Over the summer, the university installed water filling stations throughout campus. Don’t forget to bring a reusable water bottle or two.

Fall 2021 & Spring 2022
At the start of each semester residents will receive an email instructing them when to log into Campus Living E-Service to complete self check-in and provide up-to-date emergency contact and missing person contact information.
This must be completed a minimum of 72 hours prior to arriving on campus in order to have GWorld access activated in time for move-in. Access will not be activated until check-in has been completed.
To complete the check-in process, you may have to turn off your pop-up blockers.
Fall 2021
As your move in date approaches, you will receive building specific information as it relates to your residence hall. This information will include where to park/unload, where to check-in, pick up your GWorld card, and where to pick up a blue cart. Please continue to check your email for move-in communication.

Parking
We provide parking for first year students and families for their move in time slot. We will provide additional information about parking as the date gets closer (1 to 2 weeks out).
Paid street parking is available near our residence halls for students and families to utilize on their move-in day. Parking is free on Sundays in identified locations in DC. Visitors can also choose to park at our various campus garages:
- G Street Garage, Behind Potomac House, Access from both 20th Street and 21st Street between F and G Streets
- Science & Engineering Parking Garage, entrance directly next to Fulbright Hall
- Academic Center Parking Garage, located across from 2129 I St NW.

Fall 2021 | COVID-19 Policies and Procedures
GW requires all students who will be in-person during the upcoming 2021-2022 academic year to be fully vaccinated with a U.S. FDA- or World Health Organization-approved COVID-19 vaccine. This includes all individuals who will be in GW-operated or -owned buildings daily or intermittently during the 2021-2022 academic year.

If you are not in compliance, when you arrive on campus you may not have access to your residence hall or room as your GWorld card access will not be activated until your documentation has been approved.

Quarantine Requirements Upon Arrival
If you are fully vaccinated AND your COVID-19 vaccine card submission has been verified prior to your arrival, NO quarantine will be required. If you have not uploaded your documentation yet, instructions on how to upload your documentation are available here. Your medical portal app will show a green status once your documentation has been verified, which can take up to a week.
If you are unvaccinated, upon your arrival to campus, you will be required to quarantine in your room for up to 6 days until you receive two negative COVID-19 tests from our on-campus testing facility. See the Checklist above on how to schedule your COVID test. The first will be either the day you arrive or the next day, if you arrive after hours.The second will be 3-5 days after the first. Once a campus medical professional has reviewed and verified two negative tests, they will release you from quarantine. While you are in quarantine you will be expected to remain in your room. You can leave your room to pick up food and get your COVID tests at the on-campus COVID testing center. You will not be allowed to participate in any in-person student programming, activities, or classes until you are released from quarantine.
Testing Requirements Upon Arrival and for the Academic Year
If you are vaccinated: All GW community members who are fully vaccinated will be required to participate in monthly surveillance testing through the GW COVID testing center. Residential students should schedule their COVID-19 tests for the day they arrive or the next business day if they move-in after hours when the testing center is closed and the CCST will send an email on how to schedule your covid test closer to your arrival date.
If you are unvaccinated: Until you are fully vaccinated or if you receive an approved exemption for medical or religious reasons, you will be required to participate in weekly COVID-19 testing through our on-campus testing center. You are fully vaccinated two full weeks after your second dose of a two dose vaccine (Moderna/Pfizer), or two weeks after a single dose vaccine (Johnson & Johnson). Once you are fully vaccinated and your documentation has been verified, you will move to a monthly surveillance test. See Checklist section above on how to schedule your COVID-19 test in our testing center.
Student Conduct Policies
While you’re at GW, university officials are expecting certain behaviors from all of our community members to control the spread of COVID-19. Any failure to follow directives of university officials is a violation of the Code of Student Conduct, and you may be held accountable under that process. Also, keep in mind that the university follows all federal and state regulations pertaining to alcohol and drug use on campus and violating these rules may also face consequences or sanctions under the Code of Student Conduct.
