Campus Living & Residential Education (CLRE) employs students in positions that incorporate programmatic, logistical, and community-building elements into each role in the hopes that students will find that these more focused and tailored roles will help them develop more skills and knowledge as they identify what they are most passionate about.

Student positions offered by CLRE are both Federal Work-Study and non-Federal Work-Study. Students who are interested in a particular position should visit the GW Student Employment Talent Management for vacancies.  While the hiring season for student positions primarily occurs in January through February  for the upcoming academic year, positions open and close throughout the year and we encourage students to check in often to see if there are any current openings.

Community Engagement Advisors (CEAds)

CLRE invites you to apply to be a Community Engagement Advisor!

Who Are Community Engagement Advisors?

We are looking for GW students who want to make a positive impact in our first-year residence halls. Residential Community Engagement Advisors (CEAds) provide essential programming and community-building support to first-year residential students to help them feel a strong sense of belonging to the George Washington University community. In this position, CEAds can expect to create opportunities for engagement and relationship development for students in their assigned residence hall. CEAds will have the ability to develop these opportunities through the below methods in partnership with Community Coordinators:

  • Living in an assigned first-year residence hall to build positive relationships with residents, fellow CEAds, and other CLRE team members.
  • Developing programs, events, and other learning strategies in accordance with the Rev Up@Home outcomes-based learning strategy, helping build interpersonal connections among residents.
  • Facilitating Rev Chats (intentional conversations) with residents throughout the academic year.
  • Regularly identify opportunities for residents to come together and take action on those opportunities which can include, but are not limited to: bringing residents to student organization meetings, events, and sporting events on campus, helping organize intramural teams, bringing residents on excursions around Washington, DC.
  • Assisting residents with getting connected to the necessary on and/or off-campus resources as needed. 

Perks of the Position

  • Housing assignment in one of GW’s first-year residence halls on the Foggy Bottom or Mount Vernon Campus. Roommates can be considered upon request.
  • A $3,000 housing credit for the academic year ($1,500 for the fall semester and $1,500 for the spring semester)
  • Hourly salary of $17.75 per hour for approximately 10 hours per week.
  • Preference may be given to students with Federal Work Study (FWS).

In this position, CEAs can expect to create opportunities for engagement and relationship development for students in their assigned residence hall. CEAs will have the ability to develop these opportunities through the below methods in partnership with Community Coordinators:

Community Engagement Assistants/Advisors are undergraduate students hired by Campus Living & Residential Education. They work across the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses to establish a presence in residence halls, answer questions, connect students to neighborhood resources, and plan and promote events in the residence halls and across campus.

Where can I find a Community Engagement Assistant/Advisor?

Community Engagement Assistants/Advisors hold office hours in the residence halls they work in. If you are uncertain about when their office hours are, please contact your Community Coordinator. 

Can a Community Engagement Assistant/Advisor help me get in contact with professional staff after hours?

Yes, the Community Engagement Assistants/Advisors can help connect you to the Community Coordinator of your residence hall or to an Administrator on Call after hours and over the weekends.

If you have a question or concern that does not require immediate support, the Community Engagement Assistant /Advisor may provide you with the contact information for your Community Coordinator, who will respond to you during the next business day.

Each residential neighborhood has a team of staff who serve on-call for that community. Students receive their neighborhood’s on-call number through email communication and building meetings, and it is prominently displayed on the digital display in the lobby of the residence halls on campus.

Yes, you can report an incident to a Community Engagement Assistant/Advisor.

The CEA/d will connect you to appropriate resources depending on this incident - such as the Community Coordinator of your residence hall, the Administrator on Call of your neighborhood, the FixIt online system, or the emergency facilities line.
